Funky Ferments Workshop

Instructors: Barb and Mike Dietrich and Wendy Gollwitzer

Wendy, of The Cottage Kitchen and Barb and Tom, owners of Oley Valley Organics farm and store, will share their knowledge about the ancient craft of fermenting foods. With a foundation of basic knowledge, anyone can create pickles, sauerkraut, kimchee, and much, much more. As winter approaches, it’s great to take advantage of this technique developed for preserving vegetables that also happens to create unique and delicious flavors. In class, we’ll create the beginnings of a sauerkraut for each student to take home; we’ll provide the (organic) cabbage!

Decorate Your Own Fermentation Crock Workshop

Instructor: Liz Wheeler

People who get into fermenting love a good ceramic crock with a water seal. Clay on Main’s skilled potters have thrown crocks on the wheel, with a water seal, a lid, and a weight to keep your veggies submerged underwater. Come out to our studio to personalize your vessel using carving, colored slips, and oxides; you can pick up your glaze-fired piece two weeks later. You can use it for the Funky Ferments workshop, see below!
