Dairy keeps best in bells, which are like upside-down bowls placed on platters. These vessels keep your cheese and butter fresh and free of unwanted odors, while allowing them to breathe and continue to mature. Come out to Clay on Main and choose a butter and cheese bell, wheel-thrown by our master potters, to decorate. We’ll provide underglaze paints, and you can pick up your pieces in a week – perfect for bringing to our next workshop, The Art of Cheesmaking!
$65 for each adult, $33 for school-aged children (includes a wheel-thrown bell and platter)
Clay on Main offers workshops about twice a month, exploring diverse topics. . Register at least one week prior to workshop to ensure enrollment. A full refund will be given for any cancelled workshops.

Kids ages 6-12 will spend five days learning, playing and creating in Clay on Main’s ceramics studio with instructors Liz, Ray, and Jasmine! Each of the first four days will focus on ancient times in a different part of the world: Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and the Americas. Using techniques and materials from each, we’ll create a ceramic vessel or sculpture; we’ll also explore other crafts, music, and food. The fifth day will be our chance to have an informal reception and share our work with family and friends. While expressing themselves creatively and getting to know one another, campers will learn a bit of geography, history, chemistry, and geology. Physical activity is sure to be part of each day, whether we go for a walk on a sunny day, or play active indoor games.
$300 per child ($275 for each sibling). Clay on Main will provide snacks, but please pack a lunch.

Wild fermentation involves allowing natural processes to unfold, using gentle guidance on the part of the preparer. Airborne yeast settles on salted food and creates a delicious, pleasantly textured, side dish that is brimming with beneficial bacteria. We will create water-sealed crocks that allow for an almost care-free fermenting experience. The crocks, built of stoneware, will be waterproof, completely food-safe, and highly durable.
