Learn to Crochet: Basic Stitches w/ Stephanie Stamm

 

Have you ever wanted to learn to crochet?  Crocheting is a portable stress-free hobby that is fun to do.  Join instructor Stephanie Stamm and learn to do the chain stitch and single crochet.  With this knowledge, you could make a pot holder, scarf or blanket.  Granny Squares and double crochet may be covered as well.

One Of A Kind Monoprints

Printmaking is a wonderful way to explore texture and bold graphic markmaking.  Monoprinting inspires an especially immediate, fresh approach, as each print is completely unique.  JoAnn will show you how to make monoprints for greeting cards, to display, or to use in your collage and art work. We’ll be working with acrylic paints and gelatin plates. We’ll learn how to create texture, pattern and interest in the prints using everything from stamps to things you find around the house or in nature.  (Hint- Mother’s Day is coming up! )

Succulents w/ Sandy Britland

Create a unique and varied mini succulent garden.  Succulents come in many shapes and sizes, and Sandy will help you craft a pleasing combination of varieties.  She will also explain how best to care for them.  This is a wonderful way to slow down and spend some time with nature.  Treat yourself to this nurturing and peaceful gardening adventure!

Working with fused glass is easy and rewarding.  Max Rhoads will lead you through a simple, intuitive process that is accessible to ages 4 and above and all skill levels.  Clay on Main will fire your ornaments into a colorful, translucent pendant or broach, to be picked up later.  This workshop is perfect for creating gifts, or for just spending some quality time with a loved one. 🙂

Photo Lithography Workshop

Do you have a wonderful image that would look fabulous on a ceramic vessel?  Lisa Gauker can guide you through the process of transferring a photo or text onto clay.

Photo Lithography is a simple way to transfer laser printed/xeroxed images onto clay surfaces.

Students need to bring:

  1. Laser printed or xerox copied images on regular bond paper (not photo printing paper and not ink jet prints).
  2. Leather hard pots with simple forms, like cylinder shaped mugs.  If you don’t have a pot ready, let us know!  We can provide a mug for a modest additional fee.

Fused Glass Bowls

Come create a luminous and functional work of art.  Max Rhoads will lead you through the process of using brightly colored glass to create simple patterns.  All work is done at room temperature and is accessible to students ages 4 and up of all skill levels.  Your creations will be fired and available for later pickup.  Fused glass creations are utterly lovely with an inviting surface – you’re sure to be pleased!

Ceramic Birdhouse Series, 4 Classes starting 3/24!

Join ceramics instructor Liz Wheeler during this 4-part series where participants will learn the ins and outs of ceramic birdhouse building!  Create your own birdhouse, learning what size and dimensions your house should have according to the avian visitors to your yard.  First session explores the beginnings of slab building, the process of using clay slabs to construct complex structures. The second session continues with slab building and joining techniques, while the third and fourth session explores finishing and surface decoration for your newly built abode.  Invite wildlife to your backyard through this simple and fun clay activity!  Finished bird houses will be fired and completed to be picked up at a later date.  Tea and cookies will be offered during work sessions.

All ages are welcome, but students 12 and younger need to be accompanied by an adult.

Encaustic Painting Workshop

Surround yourself with the heavenly smell of beeswax, while crafting a richly layered, gorgeous painting.  Encaustic is an ancient technique used by contemporary artists, where molten beeswax and resin over paint create luminous effects. This technique creates depth because of its multiple layers.  Come with an idea or just let the medium guide your creative process.  No painting experience necessary.  Instructor: Lisa Gauker

Getting To Know Mosses and Ferns w/ Dr. Susan Munch

Some of the most amazing, intricate, and awe-inspiring living things are right under our feet! Join naturalist Dr. Susan Munch, professor emeritus at Albright College, on a journey into the inner lives and communities of mosses and ferns in our area. This workshop is wonderful for nature lovers and for artists, with attention paid to the biology and the appearance of these quietly lovely plants.
