Pirjo L’Esperance has a name that she’ll probably have to pronounce once or twice for you at first, but it doesn’t bother her because she knows you will learn it quickly enough! Pirjo teaches the children’s Play In Clay class and enjoys seeing her students using their imagination. One you learn a little more about her, you’ll see just how this reflects in her own work!
Pirjo is a Berks County Designer & Ceramic Artist. She specializes in one of a kind functional & decorative ceramics that are always inspired by nature & animals. Landscape Architecture & design is Pirjo’s professional expertise, however pursuits in ceramics & other visual arts are a natural & creative extension of her passion for the outdoor environment. There is a particular fondness for hand built functional ceramics & sculptural pieces, often created for a garden environment. Whether functional or decorative, her art works have a unique individuality. Pirjo’s subjects are usually of the 4 legged persuasion & always have whimsical undertones.
Pirjo is also a Landscape Architect, designer and self-taught artist. Artist endeavors have almost always focused on ceramics & hand building in clay. Eight years was spent working at a non-profit facility in Iowa for the Pella Community Center, teaching children different visual media in an open studio environment. A greater participation in Community Outreach programs for the arts is a future goal. She has actively spear headed several clay hand building activities with children in the construction of a community bird bath where kids have fun & learn the basics of clay application techniques. Since coming to Pennsylvania nine years ago, she has been an active cooperative member of the ‘Clay on Main’ studio in Oley, Pa., where she displays much of her ceramic creations and assists in open studio ceramics, teaching children the basics of hand building & throwing. Participation in local art shows include ‘Studio B’ in Boyertown, Pa., where she has received notable awards for juried entries, many honorable mentions and a recent Third Place honor in February of 2016. Ceramic art works & mixed media art are also displayed on a regular basis at ‘Dancing Tree’ in Boyertown, Pa., the Hamburg Arts Alliance in Hamburg, Pa.
